NEW HAVEN POLICE INTRODUCE NEW BUMPER STICKER AND SLOGAN
(7/13/2007) NEW HAVEN- The New Haven Police Department unveiled a new bumper sticker that beginning today will be affixed to all of the city’s police cruisers. The design for the bumper sticker was selected from among 25 submissions in the department’s recent anti-gun violence contest. Submissions were received from professional graphic designers, publications, amateur designers and community members. The winning selection was designed by the staff of the New Haven Advocate.
The selection process involved all 25 designed being posted on a board at police headquarters where all officers had an opportunity to cast a vote via secret ballot. The design with the most votes was selected as the winner.
The winning design features the new slogan, “I’d Rather NOT be Shooting a Gun,” and is meant to raise awareness around the City’s efforts against gun violence. The police department encourages community members to become active members of block watches, participate in district management team meetings and partner with police to put an end to gun violence in New Haven neighborhoods.
Anyone who knows of someone possessing a gun illegally or someone involved in a crime is encouraged to contact the New Haven Gun Tip Line at 203-946-8244.
